Titans Vs Rams

So close and yet not quite.  The Rams Team Manager stated that RAMS were like this last year in that they just did not get over the line after dominating games.  This year they are getting over that line.  Rams opened the scoring in just 24 seconds when from the kick off they ran straight at the Taunton defence where tackles were missed, to score an opening try.  It was Taunton who generally had possession and territory in the game, with the scrum being dominant.  Rams were often pushed back by Taunton and had to defend robustly.  So much so that in the first 20 minutes Rams had given away 7 penalties and from a kick to touch from one of these penalties, Charlie Wright eventually came away from the lineout maul with the ball to score a try. This levelled the scores and with Taunton dominance showing they were in the lead after “Man of the Match” Isaac Dalton used his power to get over the line for a try.  Jordan Gott converted, and Taunton had the lead and were in a comfortable position.  It was on the stroke of half time that again missed tackles allowed the Rams fullback in for try to leave the scores level at the break.

The second half started similar to the first when, after only 2 minutes, the Rams fullback again used his pace to burst through the Taunton line of defence for Rams to score their third try and the lead.  Sill Taunton pressed, and it was Isaac Dalton who went over for his second try which was converted for Taunton to go back into the lead. Three minutes of discretions by Taunton, soon saw that lead disappear when Taunton gave away a penalty which Rams kicked to the corner, won the lineout and from the maul were over for a try giving them a three-point lead.  Almost from the kick off Taunton gave away another penalty and the same result, kick to the corner, lineout, maul and try.  Taunton still kept pressing and were rewarded on 72 minutes when Sam Knott went over for the try.  Just 8 minutes left and three points the difference.  So, Taunton exerted pressure and so close they came but Rams held on. It was an edge of the seat nail biting situation.

Taunton took 2 points from the team topping the table but how close it was to all five is a credit to how well the team is playing and the commitment from all of them.

Tony Yapp said after the game “We always judge the players on the effort they put in and I thought today you couldn’t fault the effort from any of our players, so we are delighted with them. It’s amazing what a week off has done and the attitude of the guys coming back in to take on a very strong Rams side. It was fantastic to hear the supporters on the side this week and it certainly helps them on the field."
