Today we bid farewell to Damien Welch, our Forwards Coach, as he moves on to an exciting new opportunity with Harlequins Women. While we are sad to see him leave Veritas Park, everyone at Taunton Rugby Club is incredibly grateful for the hard work, passion, and expertise he has brought to the Titans.
Damien joined us ahead of the 2023/24 season and quickly made his mark. His knowledge of the game, combined with his positive personality, helped to bring the best out of our players and staff alike. He has played a key role in shaping the Titans’ forward pack, driving standards, and contributing to the culture that underpins everything we do at Taunton Rugby Club.
Reflecting on his time with us, Damien said:
“My time at Taunton has been so enjoyable and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with such an incredibly positive group. One of the attractions of the club for me before I joined was the reputation of Taunton as a wholesome and family friendly club with hugely talented players and a tradition of high performance rugby and the club didn’t disappoint. I will be leaving with so many great memories which in just over one season’s worth of rugby is a testimony to everyone at the club. I’ll definitely be at as many Taunton games as I can manage, this time with a beer in hand. Thank you to Yappy, the coaches and the players, John, Symo and everyone else, whether fans or staff, for having me along for the ride.”
We thank Damien not only for the time he has given but also for the energy, humour, and professionalism he brought with him. His influence has left a real mark on the squad, and his presence will certainly be missed.
From all at Taunton Rugby Club: thank you, Damien – and good luck at Harlequins! We look forward to seeing you back at Veritas Park soon, this time cheering from the sidelines.
