Taunton Titans return to Summerfield Stadium this weekend for a big National League 2 West clash as they host Loughborough Students in what promises to be an exciting contest.
The Titans go into the fixture sitting 4th in the league on 61 points, firmly in the mix at the top end of the table as the season enters a crucial stage. Strong performances and valuable results in recent weeks have kept the pressure on those above them, and with home support behind them once again, Taunton will be determined to maintain their momentum.
Loughborough Students make the trip to Somerset currently 13th in the standings on 40 points, but league position alone does not tell the full story. When the sides met earlier in the campaign it was the Students who came out on top, running out 31–24 victors in a closely fought encounter. That result will still be fresh in the memory for the Titans, adding extra edge and motivation heading into Saturday’s game.
Loughborough are renowned for their energetic, expansive approach, looking to move the ball quickly and play with intensity across the park. Their athleticism and ambition in attack make them a dangerous side when given time and space. Taunton, on the other hand, have built their success this season on their physicality around the breakdown and a clinical edge in key moments. If the Titans are to reverse the earlier result, controlling possession, winning the physical battle and maintaining discipline will be crucial.
With important league points on the line and a top-four position to strengthen, all the ingredients are there for another competitive afternoon of rugby at Summerfield Stadium. Saturday also sees our annual Former Players’ Lunch, and we are looking forward to welcoming back a number of familiar faces to the club for what is always a fantastic occasion.
A huge thank you to our Match Sponsors, Clarke Willmott — we look forward to welcoming them to the club and hope they enjoy the hospitality and the action. We are also delighted to have Civil Solutions as our Match Ball Sponsor for the fixture.
We look forward to seeing plenty of support at Summerfield as the Titans aim to respond in style.
