Taunton RFC U15’s ‘The Rebels’ travelled by bus to Weston-Super-Mare RFC on Sunday, to try and win their second consecutive Somerset Cup, having won the U14’s Somerset Cup the previous season.

The Rebels were on the back foot to start, with Winscombe starting strong and scoring 2 great worked tries in the first 10 minutes of the game, both were converted. The Rebels were taking a moment to find their rhythm. But find it they did with a fine try in the corner by the Rebels prop. A tough angle kick, in windy conditions saw it remain unconverted, but the Rebels were back in the game! Pressure from the Rebels backs soon after on the Winscombe try line, saw a well worked try through the hands of scrum half, to 10 and finally finishing with the Rebels captain playing in centre, who powered across the line just left of the posts, making for an easier conversion. Some ill discipline shortly after by Winscombe saw them penalised and a penalty taken just before half time leaving the half time score as Taunton 15 ‘v’ 14 Winscombe. What a game!

The second half saw ill discipline on both sides with a yellow card shown to each team early in the half. Winscombe gave the Taunton kicker opportunities to kick penalties which he took, nailing 2 from 2. Winscombe’s dogged efforts rewarded them with a try out wide, which remained unconverted, this proved to be a crucial miss for Winscombe with the score with just minutes to go at Taunton 21 v 19 Winscombe. Another penalty against Winscombe saw the Taunton kicker line up for the last kick of the game, but it was not to be, but it didn’t matter…Taunton Rebels were Somerset Cup Winners again!

A full squad effort, not just the 19 players playing on the day but also the 15 travelling remaining squad members who were there supporting their team mates. A HUGE thank you to the coaches, parents, family, supporters, Somerset RFU, Somerset Referees & Weston RFC for hosting a great day.
