The first half of the season wraps up for Taunton Titans at Veritas Park this Saturday with the county town club welcoming a famous old rugby name in Birmingham Moseley. Titans are still searching for their first victory at home of the campaign and whilst they ran league leaders very close in their last time out at Veritas Park, they suffered a big loss away at Rosslyn Park last weekend. Moseley mean while had a comfortable win against Plymouth Albion and lie a couple of places higher in the table.
The premier club from England’s second city, Moseley was formed in 1873 by cricketers looking for some winter diversion. They traditionally play in red and black but will be wearing their new green away strip this Saturday for only the second time. It was a Moseley team that contested the Olympic Rugby title at the Paris Games in 1900, securing silver on behalf of Great Britain in the competition’s only fixture. When the professional era arrived, Moseley was placed in the top division but were relegated in 1991 and have wandered the National Leagues ever since. Following administration in 1998, they sold off their historic home, The Reddings, and played at several homes before settling at Billesley Common, Yardley Wood Road.
Moseley was relegated to National League One in 2016 and has been known since that time as Birmingham Moseley. They number many internationals amongst their former players including Steve Ojomoh, Les Cusworth, Victor Ubogu, Mike Teague and Simon Hodgkinson. It was a close run thing when the two sides last met at Veritas Park with Titans sneaking a home win by 22-19 despite a second-half comeback from the visitors.
Despite a number of his squad recently moving on, Director of Rugby Adam Balding has a strong set of players at his disposal. Dead-eye kicker Dan Lewis slotted all of his kicks in the five-try win over Albion last time out and hooker Sam McNulty has been in free-scoring form, bagging a brace in the same fixture.
Entrance to Veritas Park for the game is £15 per person with U16's Free. Overflow parking is Free with parking in the main car park £5 a car.
