Taunton Titans roared back to winning ways in some style on Saturday afternoon at Summerfield Stadium when they beat Lymm, who started the day one place above them, by 59 points to 12.
For one of the Titan players -Ollie Shuster - Wood this was a special occasion because he was making his 50th first team appearance and right from the start the 27 year old prop forward was in the thick of things. Ollie hails from just over the Devon border and after attending Uffculme School he started playing rugby for his local team Cullompton where he scored a try on his debut. Memories of that maiden try were no doubt on his mind when he charged to the line to score Titans penultimate try of the day. The delight on his face was clear for all to see. After the game Ollie was presented with an engraved commemorative tankard by the chairman of the Friends of Taunton RFC, Steve Bell and his wife Debbie, who also sponsor the half centurion.
Regarding his achievement Ollie said: “It feels very good to have played 50 games for the Titans and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Im surprised just how quickly it has come around.
“I didn’t really start playing until I was 16 or 17 and have only played for ‘Cully’ before here. A few years ago I came to Taunton and joined in with their pre-season, but then I got injured. However I stuck with it and recovered and after playing with the Warriors have come back up into the Titans.
“There is definitely a good mood in the camp at the moment and we are looking to push for promotion. Hinckley away is a big one next week but if we play like we have today then we will hopefully come away with a win.”
Ollie added: “It was a brilliant win today and I capped it all with a try which was a really good way to celebrate my 50th.”
Whilst the Titans players and their fans repaired to the clubhouse to celebrate a memorable victory their opponents were trudging back to the team coach to face a very long 3 hour trip up the M5 back to Lymm which is situated in Cheshire approx six miles east of Warrington.
Titans next home game is on Saturday October 31st when they entertain Cinderford starting at 3pm. This is also Ladies Day with surprise entertainment throughout, an occasion that promises to be full of glamour, laughter and unforgettable memories.
