Mike Wilkins - 1930 / 2025
We are sad to announce the passing of Taunton RFC formerplayer,1st XV Captain and Life Member, Mike Wilkins.
Mike was 1st XV Captain for the 1958/59 season and played from the early 1950's to mid 60's, coupled with County duties for Dorset & Wilts.
Mike is pictured in this 1961/62 team photo holding the very prestigious BBC South West Rugby Team of the Year Trophy.
Monday to Friday he was a teacher and highly respected by all who knew him, ending his career as Deputy Head at Heathfield School in Taunton. The school produced many fine rugby players over the years, a lot of whom could attribute their sporting prowess to his tutelage.
In 2006, Mike, along with 6 other former players, introduced the "Friends of Taunton Rugby" association to the club and became one of the original trustees, a position he kept for many years.
In 2019 Mike was made a Life Member reflecting his services to the club since 1950.
Mike’s funeral will take place at Taunton Deane Crematoriumon Tuesday 25th November at 14.00 followed by refreshments and memory sharing at the Summerfield Stadium, the home of Taunton RFC.
