Match Preview: Titans Travel to Hornets

Following the buzz of the season opener, the Titans are back in action this weekend with a challenging away trip to Hornets. Last Friday proved to be a frustrating evening for Taunton, with too many penalties preventing the side from building momentum. However, in the final 15 minutes the team showed exactly what they are capable of when they get on the front foot, producing a spell of rugby that will give them confidence heading into this weekend.

Hornets are a well-drilled and physical side, and fixtures between the two clubs are always closely fought. Their home ground provides a tough environment, and the Titans will need to be at their best to secure a result. The squad has prepared with intensity throughout the week, determined to bring accuracy and resilience into Saturday’s contest.

Hornets have the luxury of opening their season with two consecutive home fixtures. On the opening weekend they edged a tight battle against Hinckley, securing a 21–18 victory. A lacklustre away performance from the Titans saw Hornets claim a 29–19 victory, something the squad will be eager to put right this time around. However, at home, Taunton responded strongly with a convincing 34–19 win, showing what they are capable of when everything clicks.

Second-row Nick Payne, who made the switch across to Hornets, is set to feature, while former Taunton player and coach Brett Harvey is also part of the Hornets’ ranks.
