The Taunton Titans return to action this weekend as they take on Chester in National League 2 West, with the sides meeting again after a closely fought encounter earlier in the season.
Taunton come into the game sitting 7th in the table on 52 points, having played 17 matches, while Chester currently occupy 10th place with 46 points after 18 games. With the Titans holding a game in hand and just six points separating the two sides, there is plenty at stake as the season moves into its latter stages.
The reverse fixture earlier in the campaign was a dramatic contest, with the Titans mounting a late fightback that ultimately fell just short, as Chester edged the game 38–33. That result will provide extra motivation for the Taunton squad, who will be determined to turn that narrow defeat into a positive outcome this time around.
Despite the recent flooding at Taunton Rugby Football Club, the pitch is currently in excellent condition, thanks to the tireless efforts of everyone involved behind the scenes. It’s a real credit to the club and the wider rugby community, and the players will be keen to repay that work by delivering a performance that reflects just how much the club means to its supporters.
Chester have shown throughout the season that they are capable of challenging any side in the league, and their league position doesn’t fully reflect how competitive they have been. They will arrive looking to frustrate and test the Titans once again.
For Taunton, the focus will be on producing a controlled and disciplined performance, converting pressure into points, and building momentum across the full eighty minutes. The squad will also be eager to give something back to the supporters, whose backing in recent weeks has once again underlined the strength of the Taunton rugby community.
We will continue to monitor the weather conditions throughout the week, but at this stage we are optimistic the game will go ahead as planned.
With league positions tight and unfinished business from the reverse fixture, this promises to be another competitive and entertaining afternoon of rugby.
