MATCH PREVIEW: TAUNTON TITANS v LYMM

Titans return to Summerfield looking to bounce back

The Taunton Titans return to Summerfield Stadium this Saturday as they welcome Lymm in another exciting National 2 West encounter, with kick-off at 3pm.

After an excellent opening to the campaign, the Titans suffered their first defeat of the season last weekend, narrowly losing 36-31 away at Redruth in a thrilling top-of-the-table clash.

Now, with the benefit of home advantage, Taunton will be looking to respond immediately and get back to winning ways.

A STRONG START

Despite last weekend's result, the Titans have made an impressive start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Taunton opened the season with a convincing 53-17 victory over Devonport Services, before following it up with a hard-fought 24-12 win at Barnstaple.

An outstanding attacking display then saw the Titans defeat Exeter University 61-21, before another thrilling contest at Summerfield ended with a 36-34 victory over Hornets.

The narrow defeat at Redruth showed once again that the Titans have the ability to compete with the very best in the division. Despite falling behind late in Cornwall, Taunton fought until the final whistle, with Scott Gibson crossing in added time to give the Titans a chance of completing another remarkable comeback.

Ultimately, Redruth held on, but the performance demonstrated the character within the Taunton squad.

LYMM ARRIVE IN FORM

Standing in the Titans' way this weekend are Lymm, who have also made an excellent start to their National 2 West campaign.

The visitors currently sit third in the table with four wins from their opening five matches, just one place and a single point ahead of Taunton.

That makes Saturday's fixture particularly significant, with both sides looking to remain firmly among the leading pack as the season begins to take shape.

Lymm will arrive at Summerfield with confidence, but the Titans will be determined to use their home surroundings and the backing of their supporters to get back to winning ways.

ANOTHER BIG TEST

The opening weeks have shown that Taunton possess plenty of attacking firepower, with new faces settling into the squad and established players continuing to make their mark.

Tom Putt has been instrumental with his kicking from the tee and game management, while Scott Gibson, Ollie Schuster-Wood, Ben Parsons and Troy Jackson have all made significant contributions during the opening weeks.

The challenge now is to combine that attacking threat with the defensive resilience required to overcome another side sitting near the top of the table.

BACK AT SUMMERFIELD

After the long journey to Cornwall last weekend, the Titans will be delighted to return home.

Summerfield has already witnessed plenty of drama this season, including the opening-day victory over Devonport and the thrilling two-point win against Hornets.

With Lymm arriving as another high-flying side, supporters can expect another competitive National 2 West encounter.

The Titans will be looking to put last weekend's narrow defeat behind them, produce another strong performance in front of their home crowd and return to winning ways.
