Titans face top-of-the-table test in Cornwall

The Taunton Titans face their biggest test of the National 2 West campaign so far this Saturday as they make the long journey to Cornwall to take on Redruth, with kick-off at 3pm.

It is a meeting between two unbeaten sides and one that could have a significant bearing on the early league table.

Both teams have won all three of their opening fixtures, with Redruth currently sitting first and Taunton second on points difference. Redruth have collected 19 points from their opening three games, with Taunton also on 19.

TITANS FLYING START

Taunton arrive in Cornwall full of confidence after an impressive opening three weeks.

The Titans began their campaign with a 53-17 victory over Devonport Services at a packed Summerfield Stadium before following it up with a hard-earned 24-12 win at Barnstaple and another high-scoring performance, as Taunton defeated Exeter University 61-21 at Topsham Rugby Club.

Last weekend's dramatic 36-34 victory over Hornets provided another test of the Titans' character. Despite Hornets scoring six tries to Taunton's five, the accuracy of Tom Putt from the tee and some determined late defence saw the Titans hold on for another important victory.

Now comes another challenge — and one that will require the Titans to be at their best.

REDRUTH SET THE EARLY PACE

Redruth have matched Taunton's perfect start and have been particularly impressive in attack.

The Cornish side opened their campaign with a 61-10 victory over Bournville, followed by a 68-33 win away at Devonport Services and a 28-14 victory over Barnstaple.

Most recently, Redruth travelled to Exeter University and secured a 34-19 victory, earning another bonus-point win in the process.

Their opening three results underline the scale of the task facing the Titans, with Redruth already establishing themselves as one of the early pace-setters in National 2 West.

A CLASH OF TWO UNBEATEN SIDES

Saturday's fixture promises to be a fascinating contest between two sides who have both made excellent starts.

For Taunton, the challenge will be to take the attacking confidence shown during the opening weeks and combine it with the defensive discipline that was required to see off Hornets last Saturday.

The Titans will also need to deal with the conditions and atmosphere that come with a long trip to Cornwall and a notoriously competitive Redruth side.
