The Taunton Titans are on the road again this Saturday as they travel to Leicestershire to face Hinckley in what promises to be another exciting National 2 West encounter. With kick-off at 3pm, both sides will be looking to build on their impressive starts to the season in a fixture that could have a significant bearing on the league table.
The Titans will make the journey in confident mood following last weekend’s outstanding 59–12 victory over Lymm at Summerfield Stadium. In front of a crowd of almost 700, Taunton produced a superb attacking display, running in nine tries to secure their fifth win of the campaign.
Jan Davison was deservedly named Man of the Match, but the victory was built on a tremendous all-round team performance. The forwards dominated the scrum and breakdown, while the pace and creativity of the backs caused Lymm problems throughout the afternoon.
After opening the season with four consecutive victories, the Titans suffered their first defeat in a narrow 36–31 loss away at Redruth. Their emphatic response against Lymm demonstrated the character and attacking threat within the squad as they look to maintain their place among the league’s leading sides.
Hinckley will be equally determined to make their mark. They have won five of their opening six league fixtures, with their only defeat coming against Luctonians in the opening round.
Since then, Hinckley have put together an impressive run of results, including convincing victories over Bournville, Devonport Services and Barnstaple. They continued their strong form last weekend with a 38–19 away win against Exeter University.
The latest league standings have Taunton in second place and Hinckley close behind in third, making Saturday’s meeting a significant test for both teams.
With both sides enjoying strong starts to the campaign, the contest is likely to be decided by fine margins. Taunton will need to bring the same intensity in the forwards, defensive organisation and attacking ambition that proved so effective against Lymm.
The Titans have already shown they can score tries from all areas of the pitch, but Hinckley’s recent results demonstrate that they will pose a serious threat on home soil. Discipline, control of possession and taking opportunities when they arise will be crucial if Taunton are to return to Somerset with another valuable victory.
With confidence high following last weekend’s nine-try performance, the Titans will travel north believing they can rise to the challenge.
