We are saddened to report the death on 21st March 2022 of former Taunton RFC 1st XV Captain, Dave Phillips at the age of 91.

Davecan be seen in photo as Captain of the 1961/62 team that topped of the B.B.C. South West Merit Table and was presented with a plaque in recognition by the outstanding England three quarter Richard Sharp.  The number of wins,32 was the highest yet recorded.

Our sincerest condolences go out to Dave’s wife Margery at this sad time coupled with that of all his family and friends.  Brothers Ken & Michael also played for Taunton at the same time”

"Dave was a no nonsense old school second row forward who could be relied upon to do his job without question. He was a pleasure to play with and a nuisance to play against and that is a compliment! His chosen profession took him away from Taunton in the early sixties when he became The Clerk to the magistrates Court up in the Midlands"
