Titans come from behind to win

By

The Titans showed some great character, that was possibly lacking a couple of weeks ago to win on the road.

Another scrappy away display from the Titans, however a more dogged approach and attitude especially in poor conditions allowed them to come from behind and claim the win at Birmingham & Solihull.

Taunton started the brightest and claimed the first points of the game when Toby East kicked an early penalty. The Bees scrum half Jack Jolly levelled the score before the first try of the game went the way of the visitors when as the Titans pack was rumbling towards the line the hosts conceded one too many penalties and the referee awarded the penalty try.

Olly kicked a penalty to close the gap before Chris Francis went over for Taunton’s second try once again after some good forward pressure and some strong drives. East converted to make the score 6 – 17 with 10 minutes of the half to go. Birmingham came straight back and scored their first try of the game through flanker Marcus Brown and with Jolly converting it made the half time score 13 – 17.

Birmingham came out firing in the second half and took the lead with a converted try with full back Corey Venus touching down, Jolly converted once again to give the home side a 3 point lead 20 – 17. Taunton brought some experience off the bench in the guise of Gary Kingdom which added some much needed control. With the Taunton looking impressive and controlling the scrums Kingdom added a penalty to tie the scores.

The game continued tied with both teams having scoring chances but making mistakes to allow the opposition to relieve the pressure. With just under 10 minutes to go Kingdom added a second penalty to take the lead. With time nearly up winger Aron Struminski dotted down to increase the Titans lead to 8 points. The Titans managed to hold on for the final minutes and claim their first win on the road and deny Birmingham a deserved bonus point.

Jarrad Hayler got the man of the match award from the opposition and showed what a great signing he was this summer.
