Taunton Titans 15-34 Birmingham Moseley

THE Taunton Titans were beaten by the better side at home on Saturday (January 20) in their match against Birmingham Moseley.

In the National One Rugby match, the final score was 15-34 in favour of the visitors after they put in a strong performance against Taunton.

There were moments of good rugby from the Titans however overall the Birmingham defence was too strong and hard to break down, leading to an away win.

In the early exchanges, the rugby was played in the middle as both sides were strong defensively, but in truth the Titans began to take control of the ball and pushed the play higher up the pitch.

In the 11th minute Harry Wright crossed over for the first try near the posts, as Frankie Dart converted for 7-0 Taunton.

But in the 17th minute Moseley pulled a try back against the run of play as they capitalised on a loose ball and converted for 7-7.

From there the visitors had control and in the 23rd minute they put together some strong passages of play before spreading the ball out wide to cross for their second of the afternoon. The conversion was missed but the score was 7-12.

Dart put Taunton closer with a penalty conversion on 30 minutes after Moseley were pushed back ten yards for dissent, 10-12.

But a now fired up Moseley moved the ball up the pitch with aggression and crossed for a try off a rolling maul. Conversion missed from the side line and it was 10-17.

Just before the break Dart missed a penalty conversion from 22 metres out so the score was 10-17 at half time.

Moseley started the second half off in style after spreading the ball wide early to cross in the 42nd minute, conversion missed for 10-22.

Taunton had a try ruled out as the referee believed the opposition planted the ball first after a kick chase and from there Moseley were in control and in the 62nd minute they scored again.

This time coming off a broken play kick to the in goal which they got to first. It was converted for 10-29.

Not wanting to lie down, Taunton broke through the lineout and went the distance to score in the corner. Conversion was missed 15-29.

However in the dying stages, Moseley crossed for the final score of the match as after a Titans knock on, they worked the play left and made it over the line. The conversion fell short so final score was 15-34.

The defeat leaves Taunton in second bottom of the National One Rugby table and Taunton have a difficult match up next, away against league leaders Rams on Saturday, January 27.
