TRFC Ladies Vs Chard

Taunton RFC Ladies team travelled to Chard on Friday night for a floodlight match in front of a huge crowd against their Ladies side. This was the first game for both teams since they started earlier this year. Many of the women on both sides had never played before until a few weeks ago.

The game started with a 2 minute silence for remembrance day. Both teams played exceptionally well despite the wet drizzly weather with Chard scoring 3 tries in the first 10 minuets. Taunton returned the gesture with a try of their own and a conversion by Britt Fassam. As the game continued Taunton held their own by making the breakaway try hard for Chard to achieve. Taunton’s strong defence faltered however late in the first half with Chard scoring their 4th try by the very speedy Charlie Taylor.

The second half started with the same enthusiasm as the first and was well fought for on both sides. Taunton’s Izzy Baker scored a well deserved break away try late into the half to bring Taunton up to 12 points.

The level of contact was controlled expertly by the referee to keep the game fun and safe for all the abilities playing. Making it an extremely face paced game with very few stoppages.

Final score Chard 44 Taunton 12. An outstanding game played by both sides and a brilliant example of local ladies Rugby.

For anyone interested in joining a team or having a try at ladies rugby or would just like to find out more Chard and Taunton clubs would be happy to answer any questions. Training is Monday and Wednesday nights.
