Welcome back Joel

This is awesome news for the Titans as we welcome back Joel Conlon to the club. Joel has spent the last couple of seasons not playing due to injury but has recently been given the all clear to return to playing, which is great news for not just the Titans but for rugby. A Taunton boy through and through! Joel lives just around the corner from the Towergate Stadium, he came up through the youth section at the club and was a pupil in Taunton at Heathfield Community School.

Joel went on to be part of the Exeter Chiefs academy before moving into the Chiefs senior squad, while at Exeter he also represented England u20’s where he played a huge part in the Junior World Cup win, scoring a try in the final to beat South Africa 21 - 20. Joel then made the move London where he played first team rugby with Saracens lining up alongside the likes of Farrell the Vunipola brothers and Maro Itoji, before injury cut things short.

Head Coach Tony Yapp said;

“We are very excited to have Joel coming back too Taunton, I know the last couple of seasons have been tough for him, but the fact he has been given the all clear to play rugby again is great news for him and certainly for the Titans. Despite not being able to play, we’ve seen a lot of Joel at the club over the last couple of seasons due to his love of the club and the fact he lives just around the corner.

It’s certainly not lost on us all the sort of quality that Joel is going to bring to the Titans having played England 20’s,Exeter Chiefs and more recently Saracens, and the experiences he has picked up both on and off the field is going to be invaluable to us as we start life in National one”

On signing Joel said;

"It’s an incredibly exciting time for me, the last two years have been pretty tough having to step away and take a prolonged break from the game with no certainty as to whether I would be able to return or not.Luckily the body has healed and feels better than ever and in the last six months I have really regained my love for the sport which I think goes missing with bad injury runs. Being cleared to play again I always had coming home in my mind, It’s my home club and it’s where I started my rugby journey so I would love the opportunity to wear the shirt again. The club has never been in abetter place and that’s purely down to the people who are involved, I can’t wait to join them and be part of a great group of people and hopefully as players we can make my home club proud this year.

All at Taunton RFC wish Joel all the best with the Titans and are so proud for what he has achieved in his rugby career so far. For Joel to come back to his home club and represent Taunton once again is very special and something we are all excited about.
