Titans run in 10 as they repel the Raiders

With both sides showing several new faces for the first league game of the season it was the home side that took the game to the visitors from the off and after 5 minutes in the Worthing 22 and after several strong scrums and a drive for the line by Sam Prior the Titans were rewarded with a try for debutant back rower, who moved from Barnstaple over the summer, Jarrard Hayler. The forever young Gary Kingdom converted. With the Raiders first decent set of possession they also went over for a try this one scored by full back George Brown.

With the score at 7 – 5 all was poised for an exciting game but the Titans then started to take control and never looked back. A quick tap by Lewis Webb put Ratu Vakalutukali through a hole. The ball was recycled and some great vision by fly half Sam Brown who kicked to the corner for the Titans second debutant winger Oscar Kolowski to catch the ball out wide and score. This was followed by a double by centre Nick Mason the first came from a turnover where it was the ball was spun wide and Mason showed some pace and had just enough to go in at the corner. Mason's second came from a great break by Sam Brown and then followed by Isaac Dalton who off loaded to fellow traveller Mason to score. Sam Brown then scored one of his own. From the kick off the Titans kept the ball and Brown made a break from the half way line and with 3 strong hand offs found the space to score under the posts. With Kingdom converting 2 out of the 4 the half time score was 31 – 5.

The challenge for the Titans was to not to relax and carry on where they left on and that they did. Straight from the kick off Sam Prior and then Sam Brown took it on up to the Raiders 22 before the quick ball was spread to the wing for Ollie Rice to dot down out wide.Mason then went in for his hat trick try 10 minutes later as the Titans played out of their 22 and after several phases Jarrard Hayler burst through to off load to Lewis Webb who popped to Mason. Taunton then got some turnover ball deep into their own 22 and Kingdom spotted a gap to race through before passing the baton to Ollie Rice to then throw a dubious pass out to Kolowski who took it to the line and drew in the last defender for an easy Mason try and his 4th of the game.

Worthing pulled a try back through John Lee, before the Titans turned the ball over in the Raiders 22 and the ball was sent from side of the pitch to the other for Kolowski to stand up his opposite man and run in his 2nd before Ratu Vakalutukali got in on the act again from turn over ball Taunton put the ball through the hands and a great off load by prop Isaac Dalton allowed 'Toots to burst through from the 10 meter line and step the last defender to score under the posts. Kingdom converted 3 of these tries to make the score 62 – 10 with 5 minutes to go.

The Raiders showed great character and played right to the end and scored 2 further tries to come away with a deserved bonus point and make the score 62 - 24 at the final whistle.
