Taunton received a welcome boost today as confirmation was received of the return of second row Marsh Cormack to their ranks.
Cormack is somewhat of a gentle giant off the field of play, but when in possession of a rugby ball he is more akin to a bearded raging bull. After recently arriving back from military duty in Afghanistan he subsequently indicated his desire to once again play rugby in a Taunton jersey.
Marsh first joined Taunton in 2009, and was an integral member of the 1st XV squad that secured promotion from National 3 South West for the club in the 09-10 season. The team amassed 840 league points that year, scoring 117 tries, with Cormack a key component in a rock-solid forwards pack.
Whilst the Taunton team’s fortunes this season have been mixed, the addition of Cormack will add invaluable physical presence and experience to the young pack. It is hoped that, in particular, his inclusion will improve set-piece operations, an area in which the side has struggled to settle this term.
Cormack will be joining fellow Armed Forces member Dave Bates in the second row, with talented youngster Ollie Marriott moving to the bench as a replacement. Marriott has been playing a lot of university rugby of late, in addition to training and playing at Taunton. As such the Taunton coaching team have elected to use what opportunity there is to rest him a little, knowing his university rugby commitments will be easing in a few weeks.
Taunton welcome promotion contenders Old Albanion 1st XV to Hyde Park tomorrow (Sat, 18th Feb). Kick off is scheduled for 3:00pm.
