Eddie Cullen has stepped up to throw his support behind Taunton rugby as 1st XV Team Manager until the end of the season. He said, "Taunton has done well to secure national league rugby, it's a good standard and highly competitive. It is a status I want to do my best to ensure we continue to hold for the town and for Somerset."

Eddie is highly respected for his knowledge and experience in the game, which he gained over many years as a player, and later as Manager of The Army 1st XV and sevens rugby teams. Few rugby fans will ever forget the Twickenham 7s when The Army team turned up not only to compete with, but also to defeat, the best professional clubs in the land and lift the famous Middlesex Trophy. A smiling Eddie recalled, “That was certainly a famous day for Army rugby.

"Our sevens squad was amongst the best in the world at that time, but there were many famous days for Army rugby all over the world in both sevens and the fifteen-man game over the years.

“That was then and this is now. Taunton has three quality coaches in Tony, Jason and Chris. We have some good players here, and the makings of a really good squad, but make no mistake work still needs to be done to retain national league status.

“We've a daunting task on Saturday, with the visit of Old Albanion 1st XV to Hyde Park, but I believe we can be sure of our national league position come the end of April. I'm weighing in with my support, at least until the end of the season," he concluded.

Hertfordshire-based OAs put 62 points past Taunton in their last meeting in October to inflict the Somerset clubs heaviest defeat of the season. It could be somewhat of a baptism of fire for Eddie on Saturday at Hyde Park, kick off is scheduled for 3pm.
