After a stuttering start to 2012 Taunton’s new year swung back on track in style with victory over Barnes. This Saturday the young side must raise their game again as they make a substantial away trip to Hertford.

Hertford have not had the best of times either post-new year. So far in January they have lost all three fixtures against Richmond (3-28), Barnes (37-21), and Southend (29-12). With only one away victory all season, Hertford are a side who will likely be a different prospect on their own turf.

Despite the well publicised off-pitch drama at Hyde Park, the Taunton side have been preparing this week in similar fashion to that against Barnes. Christian Gervais returns to the starting line up, where he will partner with Dean Taylor-Menzies in midfield whilst Ryan Edwards is unavailable through injury.

Only two league places separate Taunton (11th) from Hertford (13th) currently. However they are ten league points apart, with Taunton only four league points behind 7th place Clifton. A solid Taunton victory, combined with a couple favourable results elsewhere, could see the Somerset side leapfrog up the standings; such is the close competition in National Two this year.

With the following weekend free from any fixtures, the Taunton team will be looking to earn themselves a two-week breather with a full five-point haul in the bag. For live score updates you can follow all the action via our Twitter and Facebook pages.
